€6.5 million compensation for injured man

A man suffered severe and permanent personal injuries* as a result of a road traffic accident has secured €6.5 million in compensation in settlement of his High Court action.

A man suffered severe and permanent personal injuries* as a result of a road traffic accident has secured €6.5 million in compensation in settlement of his High Court action.

The man was involved in a head on collision with a van outside New Ross, Co Wexford, on November 9th, 2004. The man who was 29 years old at the time and working as a plasterer was traveling in vehicle with his daughter as a passenger. His daughter sustained a broken finger.

The High Court Judge, Ms Justice Mary Irvine approved the €6.5 million settlement of the injured mans injury claim which was before her for assessment of damages only. The man suffered a severe brain injury, multiple fractures and had been left quadriplegic. As a result of the injuries, he could not feed himself and was totally dependent on others for nursing care. The High Court was told that the man would require care for the rest of his life.
