A four-year-old girl who cut her knee after kneeling on broken glass while watching a concert at her crèche, has been awarded €25,000 damages.

The Circuit Court was told that the child had been kneeling on a floor with other play-school children in June 2011 when the incident occurred. The girl who sued through her mother suffered a deep cut to her right knee which resulted in her having to be taken to Temple Street Children’s Hospital for treatment.

An application was made to the Injuries Board on the child’s behalf by her mother and the owners of the crèche agreed to the Injuries Board assessing the child’s claim for compensation*. The Judge of the Circuit Court was told that the child had been left with a scar after the accident and the Judge approved the Injuries Board’s assessment of €25,000 compensation with a further sum of €1,931 for expenses and legal costs.
